Still Life Practise

These are images of small practise still lifes I have set up and shot on my camera phone.

Jigsaw

Following the rich colour palette of Persian fabrics and petals I have sourced a rose printed jigsaw to use in my still life.

Prop Ideas: Scales

As a Base for my still life I want to use scales to display my herbs and spices. After a bit of researching I found the exact style I need and borrowed them from a friend. They are vintage style black with brass dishes and weights.

Rice

Experimenting with Persian foods I have been looking at rice and used food colourings to dye the grains. After doing this I realised the final outcome wasnt as I wanted and the colours were completeley offset.
The colours were too bright and when I attempted to make them darker the dye would not soak into the rice. I then went on to make some rice and dye the lot black.

GUCCI Fall/Winter jewellery

Key details from Gucci's collection including dark gemstones and pendant drop earrings. The main accessory that caught my eye from this collection is the knotted rope waist belt resembling a curtain tie. This is an element I am going to use in my still life editorial by sourcing/ making one to a similair style.

Dolce&Gabbana Fall/Winter Details.

Key details from Dolce & Gabbana's winter colelction show very heavy embellishment on the clothes and accessories. The jewellery has elements of cherubs and pearls mixed with pastel roses with contrasting black gems and gold chain.

Petals

I have taken these images from my red tulips which have started to darken in colour as they are dying. I love the deep plum colouring they are changing to as it resembles aspects
of the colour palette from Burberry Fall/Winter 12.

Persian Jewellery

Iran (Persia) possesses an extraordinary treasure of royal jewellery including a copious amount of mother of pearl from the Persian Gulf.  The Iranian crown jewels are among the largest, most dazzling and valuable jewel collection in the world.

Here is a link to a website I found dedicated to vintage gold persian jewellery

Mulberry A/W12

Mulberry Womenswear Autumn Winter 2012
'Where The Wild Things Are'

LOVE this collection, keeping the fun elements to their heritage, the Mulberry show never fails with its set design. Black sheepskin covered benches set the scene for the full fur 'yeti' inspired outfits mixing bright tweeds, chunky knits and tiger prints.
Autumnal colour stories of browns, reds, orange and blacks.
The maisie messenger bag was re created in black shearling for the collection.

As I have decided to base my still life around a persian theme I will be referencing key details from this collection including the colour stories, fabrics and pattern details.

Burberry A/W12

Burberry Prorsum Autumn/Winter 2012 Womenswear
'Town And Field'

A wintery warm collection keeping the british charm and 'gilded youth' within.
Peplum skirts and corduroy jackets flow into the tailored tweeds and floral print faille pieces. The colour palette is rich in burgundys, browns, greens and grey.

Spices

Moving this project along from foods I have looked into spices following my Persian food experience. Here are some images I have found using spices in a creative way...

Persian Textiles

Persian Embroidery

Persian embroidery is one of the many forms of the multi-faceted Persian arts. The motifs used in the Persian embroidery are mostly floral, especial Persian figures, animals, and patterns related to hunting.
